Food for Others, the largest distributor of free food directly to people in need in Northern Virginia, provides the assistance vitally needed by our unemployed and low-income neighbors. We provide a safety net for people who suddenly face unforeseen emergencies such as a family illness or the loss of a job or a spouse.
Even though Northern Virginia is considered one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the country, we still face a poverty rate of about 5%. This means, based on U.S. Census figures, that more than 90,000 people are living in poverty and 30 percent are children.
Food for Others is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization funded in part by the Fairfax and Arlington County governments. We also receive funding from foundations, churches and many generous individuals. A small but dedicated staff and the hard work of over 1,000 volunteers allow us to keep our costs low and maximize our service to those in need.
Financial contributions to Food for Others are tax-deductible. Donors will receive a tax receipt acknowledgement of their donation.
As an organization dedicated to sound fiscal management and transparency, we are providing easy access to our IRS 990, Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax . For additional information about Food for Others, please see our Annual Report.
