Food for Others' mission is to obtain and distribute free food to the hungry of Northern Virginia and support food programs of other community-based organizations. We provide a channel for people to help their neighbors by actively volunteering their service.

Help the Homeless

There are many ways you can work to help those in need in our community by participating with Food for Others in the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless program.

  • Become a Friend of Food for Others - Join with others in the community and become a Friend of Food for Others by making a donation to our group. Fannie Mae will leverage donations made to our Friend’s group by 20% of the total raised. For information on how to join us, please call the office at 703-207-9173 and ask for Roxanne or Liz.
  • Walk on the Mall to End Homelessness - Walk for Food for Others at the Help the Homeless Walkaton on the Mall in Washington, DC on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. All of your registration fee will go to benefit Food for Others if you register using our code, FDFOR. To register go to www.helpthehomelessdc.org.
  • Sponsor Student Walkers – Food for Others sponsors several mini-walks at local schools. We receive 100% of the registration fees and additional incentive money for numbers of walkers. Some students cannot afford the entry fee and are unable to receive a t-shirt without paying for registration. You can sponsor 7 student walkers for $100 or one for $15. For information about sponsorship, call Food for Others at 703-207-9173.
  • Sponsor Walkers for the Walk on the Mall – Provide the $25 registration fee for someone unable to pay. Call Food for Others for more information at 703-207-9173.
  • Hold a Mini-Walk – The Fannie Mae Foundation invites schools, community-based organizations and faith-based organizations to host mini-walks. These walks primarily engage young people, but teachers, staff, parents and other adults connected to the schools and the organizations hosting the walks are also welcome to register and participate. Food for Others will help your organization register and organize your mini-walk. For more information call 703-207-9173.
