Buy your ticket now for the Empty Bowls dinner! The event will take place Friday, April 4, from 5:30-8:00 pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Rd., Reston. For a donation of $20, guests will receive a hand-made pottery bowl and soup supper. This year all tickets will be limited to 500 and sold in advance.
Hosted this year by the Giving Circle of HOPE, a local Reston philanthropic organization, the $20 admission to the dinner includes the choice of a ceramic bowl (yours to keep), as well as soup, bread, and dessert, donated from local restaurants. Potters from The Clay Connection, Bowman House, and Reston Community Center are making and donating the bowls for the event, and we are eager to see the varied works of art!
The generosity of the potters as well as the Giving Circle of HOPE will enable Food for Others to receive the full proceeds from this event.

Thank You from the Staff of Food for Others! |
 |
We’ve made it through the Holidays! But it was only with the help of hundreds of volunteers and contributors from throughout the community. Our faithful staff, front desk and warehouse volunteers braved the record number of clients with their usual good cheer. We enjoyed the generous support of our local grocery stores, schools, places of worship, and businesses who donated food and funds, ran food drives for us, and some who came in and packed the food boxes. We know you will forgive us if we don’t thank you all by name. Here are some special donors who really outdid themselves this year. The Boy Scouts brought us 28,897 pounds of food this year from their food drive in early November. Paul VI High School broke all previous records this year during their “Ton of Love” canned food drive with their donation of more than 36,000 pounds of food! And when we needed bags to pack up the approximately 1,500 Thanksgiving meals, all it took was a quick phone call to Ann Beisel of Whole Foods, Vienna. Wegmans Food Markets came through at the last minute with a donation of 75 complete Thanksgiving meals. Finally, we relied on our regular team of volunteers from Volunteers for Change with the leadership of Eden Butler to help us through the holidays for the third year in a row.
Whether you’re a big donor or a small donor, we couldn’t do what we do without you. We are honored by your support. |

Thank You Southern States! |

Pictured on the left are a few of the hundreds of volunteer harvesters at the USDA Research Farm in Beltsville, Maryland.
On July 23 and 26 and August 2, over 70 volunteers assembled at the USDA fields to plant seeds donated to Food for Others by Southern States. In September, several harvests of beans and yellow and green squash were held. Volunteers brought in hundreds of pounds of this excellent fresh produce for distribution to people in need in Northern Virginia.
Thank you Southern States and Tom Randolph! |
