If You Need Food If your family is hungry and needs emergency food assistance, we can help. At the Merrifield Warehouse we distribute food in the following two ways: Referrals for Emergency Food If you have a referral from a social worker or agency for emergency food, you will receive about 3 to 5 days’s worth of free food for your family. We accept six emergency food referrals a year. Each referral must be sent to Food for Others via FAX (703-207-9204). Once received, the referrals are kept on file for two weeks since the intent is to provide food for an emergency only. The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) The USDA food is provided to Food for Others by the US government. No food substitutions are allowed. You may return once per calendar month for USDA food packages. USDA packages are based on the size of your household. You must be a Virginia resident and meet financial guidelines stated on the application form (provided in Spanish and English). We ask that you update any changes in address, household members, and income level as they occur during the year. Street Sites Food for Others also provides food several days per week at various sites around Fairfax County, Arlington, and Falls Church. Anyone in need of food may come to one of the sites at the times specified. All you will be asked is how many people are in your household. Please bring your own grocery bags!
