The Team

Food for Others' mission is to obtain and distribute free food to the hungry of Northern Virginia and support food programs of other community-based organizations. We provide a channel for people to help their neighbors by actively volunteering their service.

The Food for Others Team

Staff

Food for Others has a small paid staff. These include drivers, warehouse and administrative staff. These are the people who do the heavy lifting, coordinate food donation schedules and do the everyday work which keeps our services humming.

Volunteers

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Food for Others. We simply could not operate without the help of our volunteers. They help with food deliveries, office work, food distribution, maintenance, special events and fundraising, plus much more. To find out how you can become a volunteer, click here.

Board of Directors

A group of committed community citizens comprises our Board of Directors. In conjunction with our Executive Director, they set goals, do strategic planning, continually monitor our programs and work toward expanding the reach of our services. To meet our board members, click here.

Board meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of each month with the exception of July (no meeting). The meetings are open to the public. If you are interested in attending, please call the office at 703-207-9173 to check on the time and place of the meeting.

Food Donor Partners

Almost all of the food that Food for Others distributes is donated food. Much of our non-perishable items come from community-based food drives. In addition, numerous local grocers and bakeries generously contribute food. We also receive venison, in season, from the Virginia Hunters for the Hungry.

Who Funds Us

It takes more than donated food to keep our organization operating. It takes funds to keep our trucks running and our warehouse operating. Food for Others is grateful for the many donors who provide us with financial support. These include Fairfax County, Arlington County, the United Way and Combined Federal Campaigns, foundations, the faith community, businesses, organizations and many generous individuals.

Food for Others is pleased to have received funds from the following for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007.
