On Tuesday, Dec. 3rd, Food for Others and millions of nonprofits worldwide will celebrate #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday utilizes the global power of social media to create social change, as over 45,000 organizations in more than 70 different countries join together to raise funds for their cause.

On Dec. 3rd, Food for Others is asking you to consider the 75,000 residents of Northern Virginia who are struggling to feed their families without assistance.  Because of your time, dedication, and generous food donations, we have been able to provide some relief to those families for nearly 25 years. With your financial support, we can continue to impact the lives of our neighbors in need.

We’re counting on you to contribute to our fight against hunger in one of the nation’s wealthiest regions.

On Tuesday Dec. 3rd, you can make a donation HERE and sign up to volunteer in our warehouse.

IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)

If you are 70.5 years old and subject to RMD, please consider making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) to Food for Others. This will allow you to avoid the ordinary income taxes you would be required to pay on your RMD. Here are some things to keep in mind:

·         Contributions can only come from IRAs, inactive SIMPLE IRAs, inactive SEP IRAs, or inherited IRAs, not pre-tax employer plans;

·         Contributions must be paid directly from the IRA Custodian to Food for Others;

·         The contribution can be part or all of the RMD;

·         The donation can’t exceed $100,000 per tax year for an individual or $200,000 for a married couple filing jointly ($100,000 from each person’s IRA); and

·         The funds must come out of your IRA by December 31 to count toward that year’s RMD.

If you have questions about donations, please contact Alison Padget at apadget@foodforothers.org.
