Staff Sweet Potato Cook-Off

On Thursday, October 12, 2017, we are hosting our first ever staff cook-off! Food for Others’ suppliers and supporters typically provide us with sweet potatoes. However, many of our clients’ cultures do not normally include sweet potatoes in their at-home meals. We’ve decided a cook-off that includes sweet potato recipes is a great way to expose our clients to healthy and easy ways to use them.

Feed VA Day of Action – September 29, 2017

We were able to collect 934 pounds of apples which we’ve happily distributed to our clients. The Clifton Women’s Group bagged the apples for our clients, (who received 6-8 apples depending on the size). Thank you to all volunteers who helped in the orchard and in the warehouse! #FeedVA

TYSONS TAILGATE: BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES

Tysons’ largest fundraiser and outdoor party of the year – the Tysons Tailgate – was an enjoyable and successful event for the Food for Others family. It’s always a great time supporting our community partners!

All proceeds went to Second Story, the only youth emergency shelter in Northern Virginia.

SECOND STORY

Second Story, formerly Alternative House, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) located just down the street on Gallows Road, is the foremost provider of services, shelter, and ongoing support and expertise for homeless, abused, pregnant, and at-risk youth and their families in Northern Virginia.
