Why I love volunteering at Food for Others . . .

I have been at Food for Others for about three years as one of our volunteers.  I will be starting my fourth year in 2020. For my first two and a half years I worked on the Power Pack Program, but now I work on both sides of the warehouse : in P3 and as the produce assistant.

I am the produce assistant, which means I sort food items from five local stores to send to Food for Others’ Community Partners and Neighborhood Sites. I also do work on the farming and gleaning program with Maheyaar Barron. This program promotes the benefits of good cooking and healthy eating habits for the families who pick up food at our warehouse.

Please, I urge all of you next year, in the warm months of spring, summer, and fall to plant your own gardens in your backyards and donate your extra herbs and vegetables to Food for Others.

Also, once in a while when I’m volunteering, I like to help Food for Others set up for its fun events.

One of my favorite things about volunteering at Food for Others is our warehouse supervisor, Leo Delgado.

He has been with Food for Others for 11 and going on 12 years. Leo is fun to be with, if you have a problem, he is always there to say “No worries, you’re good!”

This is the reason that I love volunteering at Food for Others: it is clear to me the needs of people other than myself.  What Food for Others really stands for is generosity, kindness, helping others, and the stability of lasting friendships.

I believe in the power of doing good and helping others by making them happy. When our clients come to the warehouse, I want our happiness to help them because we show that we are thankful and blessed for being able to come together to help others.
